Following the diagnosis of a heart condition at the Western
General, last Wednesday I am currently very physically
incapacitated though still mentally alert . I would like to
thank those of my friends, who I have not thanked already
for their recent 73rd. Birthday greetings.
I am still hoping to attend Broughton St. Mary's Church
this Easter Sunday, where I have been invited to read my
poem 'On the Second Easter of Covid' (see below)during
the service. This may well be my last public appearance,
and follows my recent successful reading of 'Touched
by an Angel' by Mary Angelou.
I am still hoping to publish my 30000 word novel,
which is addresses the realities of Eugenics. It is now
titled 'Looking back through the Fireball'
ON THE SECOND EASTER OF COVID
by Tom Leonard
Miriam’s vines died on Good Friday
As the toffs celebrated at the Easter Ball
In maskless disarray,
And the Covid patients lined the hospital floors
As far away as Monterey.
Miriam died alone on Good Friday,
Her crucifix clasped to her breast,
East of Eden in Salinas,
The toil had taken her zest.
Miriam rose again that Sunday
On a golden planet in Orion,
Surrounded again by her children,
And the Covid humans who’d travelled to the stars.
They built a new civilisation
on that planet, and nothing was ever quite the same,
