MY FATHER'S BIRTHDAY
My father Captain Cecil Leonard (1913-2001) was born on 4th September 1913 in Plymouth, Devon
My father and mother in Saltash, Cornwall in about 1970
My father,my stepmother, and myself, outside my house on Pickford St,. Madison, Wisconsin, in 1986
My father fought in the British Eighth Army in North Africa, initially as a Lance Corporal in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry at the Battle of Tobruk, He was commissioned on the field by General Montgomery, and mentioned in dispatches, at the Battle of Tunis in 1942, after taking over command of his platoon and capturing a machine gun emplacement which was blocking the Allied advance. He was transferred to the Green Howards shortly afterwards,
My father subsequently fought in Sicily, at the Messina crossing and, while attached to the American Fifth Army, during the abortive British attack on the Anzio beachhead, which enabled the Americans to advance inland, He was among the first British troops to enter Rome
After several months respite in Palestine, my father fought in Holland and at the Rhine crossing, He reached the distant outskirts of Berlin before becoming an instructor at Sennelager.
After the war, my father worked as branch manager for Amalgamated Dental in Yorkshire and then in Plymouth, During his retirement, he visited me for long periods in Wisconsin.
Greumach MacFothaidh Happy memorial birthday to your father. He could well have met my uncle, Major Phil Vahey. CHESHIRE Regt & RTR, who was Monty's Tank Adviser in the 8th Army at Tobruk.

My Most Popular Blog Article: Perspectives on my Psych, Bullying, Psychopathy, Eugenics, and the World
ARTICLE
ABSTRACT: The author, a retired Bayesian statistician, suffers from a debilitating form of Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.), a physical and neurological condition which remained undiagnosed for most of his life. In this article, he analyses the impact on his life of his experiences with bullies and psychopaths; at high school, in the workplace, in his family, and in society in general. He goes on to discuss the way the dark forces of Capitalism and the powerful psychopaths in our Establishments have intruded upon the well being and potential for the good quality survival of the population of the world, both historically and to this very day. Particular emphasis is placed upon the Eugenics movement of the early twentieth century, the mind control procedures developed by MK Ultra and the C.I.A. during the Kennedy era, and a 'Eugenics Consortium' which includes the military-medical-industrial complex and which the author conjectures might be responsible for many of the human destructive policies which current threaten us. A brief history is attached of the early Eugenics movement at University College London, where the author subsequently studied for his doctorate. The author also debates how our world should be improved, if our social fabric and joint sanity are not to be destroyed be the ever increasing irrational aggregate behaviour of our Capitalist system, including our armaments companies, Big Pharma, and our Monsanto-style chemical conglomerates.
EPILEPSY, THE UNWELCOME VISITOR, by Richard Atterwill
RICHARD ATTERWILL'S BLOG
But it need not ruin all of our lives
Welcome to my blog on epilepsy, which I have named The Unwelcome Visitor (tuv). After suffering from (tuv) epilepsy since it came into my life many decades ago when I suffered from first (grand mal) attack, now known as tonic-clonic seizures. After many years of suffering from this type of (tuv) my type of (tuv) changed to temporal lobe seizures. My (tuv) is better controlled thanks to a new anti epileptic drugs (aed’s) regime.
I have now decided to write a simple to understand blog on this very cruel, little known about and very complex illness, (tuv).
Approximately seventy percent of people suffering from (tuv) can have it well controlled by (aed’s) or where necessitated by neurosurgery. However for the remaining thirty percent of us sufferers, there is no such joy. In addition to this there are those out there suffering from more serious types of (tuv) than I have. Then there are those who not only suffer from of (tuv) one kind or another, but also sadly suffer from additional illnesses, just to make their lives a lot more like hell. God bless them all.
(Tuv) affects our lives in so many different ways. It is a very frightening and dreaded illness, which can ruin the lives of not just us sufferers, but also of our loved ones and friends alike. It not only scares the living daylights out us, but of everybody else who just happens to be in our vicinity when the electric storm begins in our brains. Seldom can we be lucky enough to retain true friends, who need to be there for us when (tuv) pays us a lightning visit. Our loved ones and true friends require the knowledge of how to put us into the recovery position when the shaking has stopped, after having a tonic-clonic seizure. These blessed souls, also have to be of a cool and calm disposition at all times. Not only for when we are experiencing our latest visit from (tuv). These people are what we call true friends and they have to be Gods guardian angels on this earth. God bless them all, they all well and truly merit their places in heaven.
I have used (tuv) to illustrate to you of just a few of the most simplistic things and some of the more serious things that (tuv) inhibits us from doing.

TWO SONNETS CONCERNING JEAN SIBELIUS, by James L.S. Carter
JEAN SIBELIUS (1865-1957)
Jean Sibelius (/sɪˈbeɪliəs, -ˈbeɪljəs/;[1]
SIBELIUS
By James L.S. Carter
From Merton College Chapel one lone night
As I passed by, I heard a sudden thrill-
Heightening wall of sound that seemed to build
A far off country, northern, cold and bright,
Wider and wider, altaring God's sight
Of holy nature, rising up to fill,
Fall from the inverse progress of lark's trill,
Dusks as a dawn, and Joy a horrid plight.
The great crescendo dulled to sadder sound.
Arrested in its course, as I had been,
And made to wonder at the genius-mind,
Who he might be, and how his star be found,
And wondering how much failing to have seen,
Before, how many wandering stars behind,
SIBELIUS' FIFTH SYMPHONY
By James L.S. Carter
From Turku Castle calls a hunting-horn,
Cries like some phoenix down through centuries
That in the wider vistas higher flies
Until it sees blown, glowing, golden corn,
Fluttering fields that ripple with the wind.
Vertiginously, parallax of flight
Rushes the vast lakes past until they fright,
Seeming to chase where sun's reflection winked,
Striding behind, trailing mind's aftermath.
Out in the darkness of the growing night
The gyring falcon fear's its master's wrath,
Cold, lonely, lost. Deserts of peasants' light
Through which shines labouring to build
Oh harvests of free joy, endlessly thrilled!

NOSH OFF TOP OF THE WALK (Poem)
NOSH OFF TOP OF THE WALK
Thomas Hoskyns Leonard
Jason likes filling himself in 'Filling Station',
Piece of Americana in glass Omni Land;
Neat waitresses with thighs like elks and
Brash waiters with thighs for bis,
As I look forward to the Friday fry.
Chicken Fajitas sizzle without a fizzle
Spicy calamari, loaded skins, sea salt pretzels
Milkshakes, strawberry cheesecakes, and pecan pie
Make the evening go by.
Pastas have improved in 'Taste of Italy'
Used to be dry as a bone
Now my tastebuds do hone,
While my head goes dizzy in a spin
As I take the naff atmosphere in,
Mafioso stuff there is better than at family joints.
'Guiliano's' and ' Mama Roma'.
Shave for profit! Shave for profit!
Fuck it! We're here to fucking eat and be merry, fuck it..
'The Jolly' has a jolly proprietor to behold
Vito, with hair lost since the crashing fire engine,
And that celebrated bracelet wearing thin,
Though not as thin as the hummus in 'Pomegranate';
Full of love hearts,
Gives deals to the elderly, deals to tip jar,
Deals to friends.
Doughty waitresses serve up lashings of nosh,
With plenty of shouts and a scowl in yer face.
What if pizza's burnt, potatoes are black, orange juice is sour,
Or coke is still lacking fizz?
Don't complain to the head chef; there isn't one, just scamps;
Play up to the arch-philanthropist,say that it's 'awfully nice',
And realise that if you like it cheap you have to play the dice,
What else is there? Don't even try!
Let the bent proprietors on t'other side go by,
Pasquale excepted of course; he ain't bent;
Go to 'Deep Sea Fry',
Where he serves up cod with a political tirade,
Even in Lent.
So Thomas and I down Broughton St, retreat
Where we the lovely Spanish damsel in 'Nom de Plume' do entreat
To serve us mince beef, tatties, and a very expensive sweet.
