OUR CARER ARISES, a poem by Tom Leonard

                                                                  OUR CARER ARISES

                                                     by Tom Leonard

                                               Dedicated to Jim Liddle

My noble companion, like Scott Scotius, in Christ,

                        Heavenly angel like St. Raphael,

Who cares so much for the Bruchton community,

His cousins and family in Fife,

                            Is stricken after many years

                           Of healing and comforting others

With the Omnicron virus that threatens us all.

He serenely retires to his mystical flat

Somewhere above the quaint Apple pharmacy

And relaxes as one positive flow test follows another,

And the young people bound down the stairs

                                 To nourish and sustain him.

              He reads and composes poetry

              And sends pleasant messages

As the virus ravages his  throat,

But then a negative test!  Then another!

And he is down the stairs, fit as a fiddle,

An inspiration to me and all others,

As he becomes part of God's life once again.

Our carer has arisen, All is safe with the world.

A part of me is resurrected

           As I struggle with my mind;

We can resurrect the world once again.
