THE TRAGEDY OF CHAGOS

                                      THE CHAGOS BETRAYAL   (Florian Grosset)

                                             OVERVIEW BY MYRIAD PUBLISHERS

A shocking graphic novel account of poverty and discrimination suffered by the Chagos Islanders when their eviction by the British enforced US military control of their Indian Ocean home.

During the cold war, the US government sought to establish an overseas military presence in the Indian Ocean. This graphic novel is a shocking account of British complicity in the forced exodus of the Chagos Islanders from their homeland to make that plan possible.

Between 1965 and 1973 the inhabitants of the Chagos archipelago were forcibly removed from their homeland and dumped in Mauritius and Seychelles. Diego Garcia, the largest island in the group, was leased to the USA by the United Kingdom to accommodate the largest US military air base outside the US mainland. The agreement continues until 2036.

Florian Grosset’s searing account of the eviction, and the harsh life faced by the Chagossians after their displacement, looks back to the first generation of slaves who arrived on the archipelago and the lives of their descendants. It charts the present-day diaspora of Chagossians, their fight for the right to return through protests and court cases, and the different strategies still being used to keep them away from their land. Although, in 2016, the British government denied the right of the Chagossians to return to the islands, the islanders continue to fight for the right to return, many of them now to a homeland they never knew.  In February 2019, the International Court of Justice ruled that the UK decolonisation process of the Chagos islands was unlawful, and that the UK should end its control of the Indian Ocean archipelago, which includes a US military base.

MY HOMECARE EDINBURGH----AN AGENCY WORTH AVOIDING

MY APPALLING EXPERIENCES WITH POTENTIAL UNREGISTERED CARERS SCANDAL

8th August 2021: This is to record that, following the end of June  2021 I was the victim of  at least three serious mistreatments by three carers, and over a month of demeaning behaviour by this agency, e.g. from its offices at 10-11 Henderson St., Edinburgh Following my three complaints to the Scottish Care Inspectorate (contact Anne Dolan) , and a police investigation, the Care Commission have forwarded my complaints to the Edinburgh Social Care Directorate, and are also requiring  My Homecare Edinburgh to provide documentary evidence that each of their experienced employees is a registered member of SSSC  (The Scottish Social Services Council).  Further updates and information will follow. I am still stressed out and debilitated by my experiences. My main carer was not registered with SSSC, and recounted numerous mistreatments of  other clients by  at least one further carer (when we stopped for a rest in the Regent Bar)

EAGLE-EYED DUNCAN SCOTT WATCHED

AS THE ATLANTIC SALMON

ATTEMPTED TO LEAP THE FALLS OF SHIN,

TO SPAWN NEW GENERATIONS

IN THE ANCIENT RIVER BEYOND  LAIRG.

"ITS LIKE THE OLYMPICS!" YELPED THE WHIPPER SNAPPER,

WHEN SEVERAL SALMON LEAPT AND FAILED.

"JUST WATCH THAT CRAFTY STONKER!"

YELPED GRANDPA,

"HE'S SNIFFING OUT HIS PATCH."

AND A MASSIVE MUSCULAR SALMON

CAUGHT THE AIR STREAM,

CLEARED THE MIGHTY FALLS OF YORE,

AND LANDED WITH A BREATH-TAKING SPLASH.

"I'LL SWIM AS WELL AS HIM ONE DAY!""

DECLARED DUNCAN.

"MAYBE I'LL WIN A MEDAL AT TOKYO 2020."

"A GOLD AND THREE SILVERS FOR SCOTLAND."

REPLIED THE NOW COLOURFUL FISH.,

TURNING HIS HEAD IN GLEE.

"INCLUDING TWO RELAYS."

ADDED THE STONKER'S CONTENTED MATE,

"BUT YOU'LL BE A YEAR LATE."
