Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm only going to talk to you just for a minute or so this evening, because I have some -- some very sad news for all of you -- Could you lower those signs, please? -- I have some very sad news for all of you, and, I think, sad news for all of our fellow citizens, and people who love peace all over the world; and that is that Martin Luther King was shot and was killed tonight in Memphis, Tennessee.

Martin Luther King dedicated his life to love and to justice between fellow human beings. He died in the cause of that effort. In this difficult day, in this difficult time for the United States, it's perhaps well to ask what kind of a nation we are and what direction we want to move in. For those of you who are black -- considering the evidence evidently is that there were white people who were responsible -- you can be filled with bitterness, and with hatred, and a desire for revenge.

We can move in that direction as a country, in greater polarization -- black people amongst blacks, and white amongst whites, filled with hatred toward one another. Or we can make an effort, as Martin Luther King did, to understand, and to comprehend, and replace that violence, that stain of bloodshed that has spread across our land, with an effort to understand, compassion, and love.

For those of you who are black and are tempted to fill with -- be filled with hatred and mistrust of the injustice of such an act, against all white people, I would only say that I can also feel in my own heart the same kind of feeling. I had a member of my family killed, but he was killed by a white man.

But we have to make an effort in the United States. We have to make an effort to understand, to get beyond, or go beyond these rather difficult times.

My favorite poem, my -- my favorite poet was Aeschylus. And he once wrote:

Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget
falls drop by drop upon the heart,
until, in our own despair,
against our will,
comes wisdom
through the awful grace of God.

What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness, but is love, and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or whether they be black.

So I ask you tonight to return home, to say a prayer for the family of Martin Luther King -- yeah, it's true -- but more importantly to say a prayer for our own country, which all of us love -- a prayer for understanding and that compassion of which I spoke.

We can do well in this country. We will have difficult times. We've had difficult times in the past, but we -- and we will have difficult times in the future. It is not the end of violence; it is not the end of lawlessness; and it's not the end of disorder.

But the vast majority of white people and the vast majority of black people in this country want to live together, want to improve the quality of our life, and want justice for all human beings that abide in our land.

And let's dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world. Let us dedicate ourselves to that, and say a prayer for our country and for our people.

                I was very sad to learn about Andrew Bow's recent untimely death at age 36,

                Andrew Bow was well known in some of the shops in the South Bridge area of Edinburgh.He came across as a pleasant, quiet, and somewhat withdrawn young man

                I met Andrew a year or so ago at a couple of meetings of a charity which we were both involved in. He was always keen to help people, He for example wanted to start a tennis club for people with mental health issues who were associated with the Stafford Centre on Broughton Street (a place, at least in the past, with a notorious poor environment for people with these issues, but that's another story).

              My friend James knew Andrew much better. I suspect that Andrew either committed suicide, or starved to death, or died in even more suspicious circumstances. In any case, the lack of action by the police would appear to be quite abhorrent, I will be interested to learn more about the cause of death. While I understand that Andrew had been receiving benefits, we don't know whether he was on Workfare or whether he had been sanctioned.


                                                                 

 

 This is by no means the first time that a vulnerable person associated with the Stafford Centre has died under suspicious circumstances, and the police would appear to have invariably been reluctant to fully investigate,

Upon looking at the archives attached to my PSYCHIATRIC HOME PAGE. I have discovered the following correspondence concerning the death at age 36 of 'Theseus' who'd also attended the Stafford Centre. I have substituted pseudonyms for the names of the correspondents,

I understand that Andrew Bow was not taking toxic psych meds at the time of his death, but I cannot be sure about this.





November 13th 2012: Two Messages from Lionel-----------

2) Death of Theseus
A dearly beloved member of the Stafford Centre has died at the comparatively young age of 56. He had been in hospital for a fortnight and came out of hospital a fortnight before he died. It was given out that he died of natural causes but anyone who had seen him in the last few months of his life could have told something was wrong with him. His scalp and forehead were constantly covered in bleeding scars. I Lionel believe this was due to the medication he was on: either Epilim if he was bipolar or Largactil if he was schizophrenic. The fact is both these psychiatric drugs lead to sensitive skin and - potentially - a form of skin cancer. The facial blotches were only an outward sign of the serious illness that eventually killed him, in my opinion.

[I later learnt that Theseus was 36 rather than 56 when he died. His death could have been caused by neuroleptic malignant syndrome, rather than brain lesions.]

4th December 2012         AN UPDATE ON WENCESLAS Dear Tom, Wenceslas is now taking the atypical anti-psychotic drug olanzopine. He has not however been told that he needs a monthly check on his blood cell count. He attends the Stafford Centre, just like poor Theseus did before he so needlessly died, and lives in the cachement area for Inchkeith House. I fear that he may suffer a similar barbaric fate to Theseus. All my love, Aleidh

Dear Tom,                                                                THESEUS AND WENCESLAS   ---------- I was fascinated by your story about Dr. 'Yes'.   'Theseus' was in fact 36 when he died so terribly. He was an awkward character, though popular among the other outpatients for his awkwardness towards the staff at the Stafford Centre. Your latest story leads me to wonder whether his general awkwardness, e.g. towards the shrink doctors, might have hastened his demise. His death simply must have been caused by the nasty side effects of whatever drugs he was taking. Didn't they have duty of care? I understand that while 'Wenceslas' was still taking his clozapine (before being switched to that ghastly sounding chemical mishmash olanzepine), he wasn't required to take weekly blood tests. 4th March 2013:  DRAMATIC NEWS RELATING TO THE DEATH OF THESEUS

 

Dear Tom,

The powers-that-be [ in the Stafford Centre]have punished my friend 'Laughing Horse' for claiming that Theseus committed suicide when he died so horribly. When they punished him they stated that Theseus had instead died from side effects of his psychiatric medication. I find this absolutely amazing, since it was originally put about that Theseus died from natural causes! This leads me to wonder whether there was initially a cover up.

To cap that, there are rumours that another member of the Stafford Centre has died from his side effects.

By the way, I've just discovered that my blurred vision is yet another side effect of my modecate. They never even bothered to tell me that.

WHAT ABOUT MARY????????   What the hell happened to Mary Magdalene?

• Jesus’ most devoted and faithful follower.
• The ONLY one who was said to have completed her own self-actualization under Jesus’ guidance (“healed of seven demons” is a metaphor for having completed an initiatory process through which one attains self-realization).
• ONE of few who remained by Jesus’ side through his trial, suffering, crucifixion and death (other than John, the men were not up for this…including Peter!).
• THE ONE Jesus appeared to in the resurrection at the tomb… and…
• THE ONE Jesus ordained to tell the others. (YES, I said ordained!)

What happened to Mary? The last we hear of her (in canonical scripture anyway) is when she went to tell the other disciples (who were hiding in the Upper Room) that Jesus was raised from the dead.  That’s it.  No more Mary!

Did she die or disappear into the mist? Or….did she simply get edited out?

Well, thanks to some boys (or shepherds) playing in some caves in the desert in Egypt, we know, at least for a time, what happened to Mary. And thanks to some linguists, translators and antiquities scholars, we now have Mary’s own words (at least in as much as the other gospels are the author’s own words) and a glimpse into what happened to Mary after the resurrection.  (See Jean Yves-LeLoup’s book, The Gospel of Mary Magdalene for the full text, translation and an absolutely beautiful and insightful commentary!!!!! Or, for a fictional account, read MY book, Song of the Beloved – the Gospel According to Mary Magdalene. )

SHE TAUGHT THE OTHER DISCIPLES.

Because, Jesus taught her things the guys wouldn’t or couldn’t get. Jesus taught her in secret and he taught her after he had died and been raised from the dead.

SHE had eyes to see and ears to hear what the others could not….and

SHE TAUGHT THEM.

But as has always been the case in the Western world, the woman’s word could not be received and was therefore discounted and later, demonized.

BOO!

But not anymore. In a million ways through a million teachers, Mary Magdalene has resurfaced and has come to teach us….

HOW TO BE HUMAN.

Or rather, how to be FULLY human.

Not the half-humans we have been for the past 10,000 years – dominated by fear, power and control, wreaking havoc on our planet and on each other.

Mary teaches us what Jesus taught her:

HOW TO LOVE and HOW TO BE LOVE.

ASA Statement Released Today

Today, the American Statistical Association Board of Directors issued a statement on p-values
 and statistical significance. We intend the statement, developed over many months in
 consultation with a large panel of experts, to draw renewed and vigorous attention to changing
 research practices that have contributed to a reproducibility crisis in science.

"Widespread use of 'statistical significance' (generally interpreted as 'p < 0.05') as a license for
  making a claim of a scientific finding (or implied truth) leads to considerable distortion of the
 scientific process," says the ASA statement (in part). By putting the authority of the world's 
  largest community of statisticians behind such a statement, we seek to begin a broad-based
 discussion of how to more effectively and appropriately use statistical methods as part of the
 scientific reasoning process.

In short, we envision a new era, in which the broad scientific community recognizes what
 statisticians have been advocating for many years. In this "post p < .05 era," the full power
 of statistical argumentation in all its nuance will be brought to bear to advance science, 
rather than making decisions simply by reducing complex models and methods to a single
 number and its relationship to an arbitrary threshold. This new era would be marked by
 radical change to how editorial decisions are made regarding what is publishable, removing
 the temptation to inappropriately hunt for statistical significance as a justification for publication
 In such an era, every aspect of the investigative process would have its appropriate weight in 
   the ultimate decision about the value of a research contribution.

Is such an era beyond reach? We think not, but we need your help in making sure this opportunity
 is not lost.
