TRIPS TO BOTANICS AND LORD ANCRUM'S WOODS, a prose poem by James L.S.Carter

TRIPS TO BOTANICS AND LORD ANCRUM'S WOODS

                                                 by James L.S, Carter

A week before we went to Ancrum's wood,

Which was the first week we had been supposed

To go there, Marian, Linda, Pat and I

Went to the Botanic Gardens on a bus,

To cross the East Gate threshold, we had to

Deep our feet so as not to infect the plants

And trees within the Royal Botanic Grounds.

We started first at the Rock Garden's paths

Where Pat took photos of some wondrous flowers.

We reached the waterfall and watched the cascades

Stream to the still backwater pond below.

Then  in a ring we hugged a Redwood tree.

The next adventure, and it was a good one,

Was the Chinese pavilion w' a view

Over a still pond w' lotuses.

And then we saw some oriental trees.

We went for lunch first at the restaurant

But realising that this was a mistake,

We made our way to a much cheaper cafe.
